The ABZ (Aberdeen) Reading Group - Our Aim
We aim to create a friendly and informal setting in which book-lovers in Aberdeen can meet to discuss a book we have all read. We take it in turns to nominate the book of the month. Our wide range of interests is reflected in the list of books we have read since we first started. We all like a good read but we aren't academic.
Almost everyone who has joined our group has done so with the aim of being stimulated to read regularly. Part of our commitment is that we are open to reading and discussing other members' book suggestions. Whilst the chooser can feel free to bask in the afterglow of a generally positive review we never take a bad review personally. We have found that a good book doesn't necessarily make for a good discussion, if we are all in agreement, so we don't ever blame the chooser for the book choice or the outcome of the discussion. It's never easy to predict which way it'll go, which is what makes our meetings so good to look forward to.
What makes our meetings even better is a having steady intake of new members with different reading tastes, so if you like the sound of the way we work, please get in touch with us - see under 'Contact Information' above. We'll be delighted to see you there.
Following the closure of our old venue we are delighted to be welcomed into the Inchgarth Community Centre programme from September 2009.

ABZ (Aberdeen) Reading Group book list
Here are the books we've read (most recent book first), and what we thought of them. We vote anonymously to give a star rating for enjoyment of the book itself, and a speech bubble rating for the liveliness or quality of the discussion it provoked.
